Goff, Loretta and Thelen, Sarah (2024) GenAI and (Re)Thinking Assessment. In: Higher Education Authority Teaching and Learning Conference 2024, Dublin.

Abstract

This case study from University College Cork (UCC) describes GenAI and (Re)Thinking Assessment (2023–2024 and ongoing), a collaborative initiative led by the Skills Centre and the Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning. The project supports staff and students in understanding Generative AI (GenAI), its ethical implications, and its impact on assessment practices. Activities include the development of open-access resources such as the Short Guide to Assessment in the Age of AI and the Toolkit for the Ethical Use of GenAI, monthly workshops, an AI + Assessment Hackathon, and student partnership projects including (AI)²ed. The initiative has engaged over 300 staff and 1,000+ students, promoting academic integrity, responsible AI use, and proactive redesign of assessments across disciplines
