Tonra, Justin (2024) Upholding Academic Integrity: Policies and Procedures at University of Galway. In: Higher Education Authority Teaching and Learning Conference 2024, Dublin.
Outlines the development and implementation of a strengthened academic integrity framework at the University of Galway. Since the introduction of a new institutional policy in September 2021, the university has expanded the definition of academic misconduct, established a SATLE-funded Academic Integrity role and unit, created an Academic Misconduct Register, and developed a network of Academic Integrity Advisors across disciplines. The presentation highlights initiatives in staff training, student awareness campaigns, resource development (including guidance on GenAI use and similarity reports), and the implementation of a centralised case management system. Emphasising culture-building, consistent procedures, and institutional coordination, the session reflects on fostering a university-wide commitment to honesty, fairness, and ethical academic practice.
