Abstract

This case study from South East Technological University (SETU) describes How To Talk About Race, a staff and student workshop initiative delivered by the Department of English, School of Humanities (February 2024). The initiative comprised a three-hour workshop for staff and a two-hour workshop for students aimed at supporting critical and informed conversations about race in higher education, particularly within a predominantly white community. Facilitated by Dr Ebun Joseph, the workshops focused on developing racial literacy, culturally responsive teaching, and anti-racist practice, aligning with the Equality Act 2010 and SETU’s EDI Policy 2023. Participant feedback indicated increased understanding of race relations and the importance of anti-racist approaches in teaching and learning.
