Abstract

This case study presents Developing AI Literacy in Teaching, Learning and Assessment – a Collaborative Approach, an inter-institutional initiative led by the University of Limerick, Dublin City University, and Trinity College Dublin. Funded through the HEA and National Forum Open Courses Call, the project designed and delivered an open-access professional development course to build AI literacy among higher education staff. Delivered online over six weeks with synchronous, asynchronous, and self-study options, the course supports educators in critically evaluating and embedding Generative AI into teaching, learning, and assessment in ethically responsible ways. The initiative has attracted over 300 participants in its first rollout, issued more than 300 Digital Badges nationally, and been embedded in multiple institutions. Ongoing review and inter-institutional collaboration support its sustainability and responsiveness to the evolving GenAI landscape.
