Abstract

This case study presents the CATALYST initiative (Climate Awareness Through Active Learning for Young People and Students) at the University of Limerick’s Kemmy Business School. Delivered as a mandatory, assessed component of a first-year accounting module, the project engaged over 570 students in a condensed Climate Fresk workshop designed to build climate literacy, critical thinking, and action-oriented reflection. Delivered across 40 sessions and supported by trained Teaching Assistants, the initiative integrated interactive team-based learning with pre- and post-session surveys to measure impact. Over 92% student participation was achieved, with findings indicating increased understanding of climate change and its relevance to business decision-making, alongside strong engagement and community-building outcomes. Designed for scalability, CATALYST will operate as a peer-led annual model and expand across faculties.
