Abstract

This case study presents the TU Dublin Sustainability Action Lab (SAL), a whole-of-university initiative led by the Office of the Vice-President for Sustainability in collaboration with Societal Engagement and academic partners. Building on the legacy of the SWITCH Sustainable Development Goals programme, SAL integrates sustainability competencies across teaching, learning, research, and community engagement. The initiative aligns with ESD 2030, the EU GreenComp Framework, and TU Dublin’s strategic priorities, embedding sustainability within curricula while fostering partnerships with civil society, industry, and local authorities. SAL adopts a collaborative, project-based model that connects students, staff, and external stakeholders to real-world sustainability challenges, supporting transformative learning and the co-creation of sustainable solutions. Evaluation highlights strong cross-sector participation, partnership building, and increasing institutional capacity to advance Education for Sustainable Development.
