McDonnell, Marian (2026) Inclusive Framework for AI Learning at Third Level. In: Higher Education Authority Teaching and Learning Conference 2025, 2025, Dublin.
This case study from the Teaching and Learning Centre at IADT presents a co-designed Inclusive Framework for AI Learning at third level. Funded through SATLE Pathfinder, the initiative adapts Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to guide inclusive AI integration in higher education, with particular attention to neurodiverse learners. Developed in collaboration with 16 academics and 14 psychology students, the framework provides practical pedagogical examples across engagement, representation, and action/expression, including AI-supported assessment, feedback, and project-based learning. Early feedback from staff and students has been positive, highlighting AI’s value as a collaborative tool when critically and transparently integrated. The framework is positioned as a proof-of-concept model under ongoing evaluation for broader institutional and cross-disciplinary application.
