Abstract

This case study from Hibernia College explores the professional learning needs of Cooperating Teachers (Treoraí) supporting student teachers during school placement on the Professional Master of Education (Post Primary). Funded by the Teaching Council John Coolahan Round 6 Fund, the initiative developed an online, self-directed CPD course informed by survey and focus group research with practicing Treoraithe. Findings highlighted the need for clearer role expectations, structured guidance, and targeted professional development. In response, resources including a Treoraí Handbook and professional learning materials were created, alongside a digital badge for full course completion. The initiative strengthens school–university partnerships and provides structured, responsive support for Cooperating Teachers
