Placing Pride in Medical Education

Clifford, Jacqui and Sreenan, Seamus (2024) Placing Pride in Medical Education. In: Higher Education Authority Teaching and Learning Conference 2024, Dublin.

Abstract

This case study from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) describes Placing Pride in Medical Education, an initiative within the Graduate Entry Medicine Programme (2023–24 and ongoing). Offered as a choice option to first-year graduate entry medicine students, the pilot project aimed to enhance student knowledge of the specific health needs of LGBTQ people and the barriers they experience in accessing healthcare. Developed in response to identified curriculum gaps and aligned with national LGBTQI+ inclusion strategy and RCSI’s EDI mission, the initiative seeks to evaluate and refine its approach with a view to scaling LGBTQ health teaching across the wider medical programme
