The Higher Education Authority (HEA) Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Spotlight Series 2025: Case Studies Compendium provides a comprehensive curated collection of case studies, recordings, and open educational resources that illustrate how higher education institutions across Ireland are embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into teaching, learning, research, leadership, and institutional practice. Developed from the HEA’s ESD Spotlight Series webinars, which featured weekly presentations from diverse universities and colleges, the compendium brings together 115 applied case studies from public and private institutions involving over 230 contributors. Each case highlights practical approaches to integrating sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across disciplines, from curriculum design and pedagogy to community engagement and whole-institution strategies. This resource aims to document sectoral innovation, facilitate cross-institutional learning, and support educators, leaders, and policymakers in enhancing sustainability education within Irish higher education.
