Next Generation Research on Internationalization – The Innovation Imperative

This article questions how encouragement might be provided to a next generation of researchers to explore and investigate key gaps in the current landscape of research on international higher education and the internationalization of higher education. In doing so, it outlines prior studies which have sought to map the contemporary landscape of this relatively new field of academic study, and points to examples of how certain of the research gaps are being addressed. It then offers recommendations to both prospective students and their supervisors aimed at promoting innovative research in the field.
