Computers and Learning: New roles of the Instructor and Learner

In our presentation, we intend to show how teachers on a Masters degree in eLearning programme are creating their own multimedia and web based artefacts in order to improve student learning. The use of Moodle online learning environment as a discussion forum is used extensively throughout the eLearning programme for supporting teachers to explore their beliefs and values related to practice and for generating peer support. These reflective processes help deepen their understanding of the complex issues involved in their individual practices. It is this way teachers can move back and forth between theory and practice, exploring such concepts as 'self as practitioner' and applying knowledge and skills to their own practice settings. The use of Moodle online learning environment supports a collaborative and dialogic approach to learning encouraging a 'web of betweenness' (Farren, 2005, O'Donohue, 2004) in which students are engaged in developing their critical and creative thinking and professional skills in relations with their peers.
