Experiences of online delivery to final year students on two BSc programmes: Lessons learned and advice for the future.

Gordon, Cooke and Caraher, Emma (2021) Experiences of online delivery to final year students on two BSc programmes: Lessons learned and advice for the future.

Abstract

In March 2020 all face-to-face classes were cancelled due to the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 global pandemic. This resulted in a short, sharp shock, to the system of teaching and learning for staff and students. This poster presents the experiences of two lecturers on two B.Sc., final year programmes and discusses the lessons learned when switching from face-to-face lectures to online only mid semester and, starting and delivering an entirely new semester online only. Our main findings are that lecturers should take into account many factors when undertaking online delivery including methods of promoting engagement, lecture recordings, GDPR, broadband speed, access to equipment, access to a quiet space, technological challenges, and technical support. In the extreme likelihood that a) this will continue for some time and b) it will occur again in the future, all interested parties must come together now and develop a plan that works for all.
