Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the relationship between educational technologies and students. Digital Natives according to Prensky are a generation that grew up with technology readily available and who use this technology naturally, as opposed to Digital Immigrants who did not grow up with technology and thus use and look at technology differently. Many Authors claim that educational institutions need to change to cater for the needs of these new students. Educational Technologies, Gaming and Social Media are often been put forward as a way of increasing student engagement. The study is by no means comprehensive but it is hoped looks at the main themes in the area. We conclude with some thoughts from working with 18 to 25 year olds.
