Pedagogical patterns for computer-mediated communication

Marsden, N. and Connolly, C. (2010) Pedagogical patterns for computer-mediated communication. [Conference Proceedings]

Abstract

Working in virtual teams is becoming a necessity in many organizations. Drawing on practices developed in an international cooperation to teach university students to prepare for this challenge and deriving principles from social information processing theory and the hyperpersonal perspective of computer-mediated communication, three pedagogical patterns are presented. The patterns Not Seeing Is Believing, Different Timing and Professional Chat can serve as a basis to teaching students to successfully work in on-line teams. © 2010 IADIS.
