Abstract

The development of an agent-based intelligent tutoring system (ABITS) for the design and implementation of a web-based learning system for use in the Computer Science Department of University College Dublin (UCD) is discussed. The design is modular consisting of intelligent software entities, presentation engine and various information feeder modules. CORBA is used as the middleware technology to link the modules together and allow independent development and use od separate tools. The core ITS module consists of three key components, a student modeller, a curriculum manager and the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) component.
